The time it takes to complete the smart scan depends on the size of Mac storage, the number of files, and some possible issues. It’s a combination of multiple scans: Quick malware, junk files, duplicate files, startup apps, browser logs, and cookies. Once installed, the program performs the so-called Smart Scan. I believe you can enter anything if you are not planning to upgrade TotalAV from free to premium since the app does not send activation emails. Macs have strong security rules, so virtually all antiviruses (except Bitdefender scanner) require users to enter their passwords. Also, TotalAV has some useful features for Mac users, such as VPN, Ad-block, and System Tune-up. Its malware detection rate of 87% is below the industry average but higher than some free Mac antiviruses. Overall, free TotalAV for Mac is easy to use and safe to install antivirus. It’s not the best and not the worst I’ve seen.
